Carlos Quintana (b. 1966, Havana, Cuba) is a painter whose provocative works interrogate the violence and rawness of everyday life through a lens of historical and cultural subversion.
A graduate of Havana's prestigious San Alejandro School of Fine Arts and the Superior Institute of Industrial Design, Quintana's practice is deeply influenced by the gestural intensity of artists like Schnabel, Baselitz, Kiefer, and Kippenberger. Emerging as a renegade figure in Cuba's art scene, Quintana deliberately eschewed collective movements, forging an underground path marked by unsettling visual codes and obsessive documentation of societal fractures.
His paintings reimagine classical art scenes as stages for contemporary conflict, employing a bold, symbolic palette to amplify their visceral impact. The result is a body of work that oscillates between homage and critique, where cultural references collide with unflinching social commentary.
